Cause?
Corrosive liquids; seepage/ leaking drainage pipes; improper renovation works; persistent water leakage in the floor / ceiling; removing gas equipment by an unqualified person; using gas pipes for supporting scaffolding will damage pipes.
How to handle?
Once gas pipes are damaged, the gas supply company should be notified for on-site inspections. Repairing works for gas pipes near the dilapidated drainage should be arranged. Before conducting repairing works, the defective pipe should be located and pipes should be properly protected. If the works involves gas equipment disassembly, owners are required to arrange registered gas contractors to carry out the works.

EMSD may serve an improvement notice to remedy any contravention of the Ordinance so as to ensure gas safety. The contravention may be due to lack of repair, maintenance or testing of piped or cylinder gas installations.
